Almanzo’s story revolves around his belief in Santa Claus at the age of six. When Charles puts a lock on the door, Caroline says they never had to do that before. In Season 1’s “Harvest of Friends”, however, Charles gives Caroline a key to their front door, and she specifically mentions the feeling of security that it gives her. Harriet has a record of four fainting spells in this episode, and Nancy has one, her first and only one, in the whole series. Nancy sings embarrassingly off-key in front of the mirror in one scene.

Her father in particular is quite enraged, claiming that her late mother had a devil in her which killed her upon Sylvia's birth, and it lives on through her. Then Sylvia is raped in the woods by a masked assailant, but Mr. Webb, fearful of the townspeople's reaction, insists she keep it a secret. Later, Sylvia collapses at school, and Albert and Laura take her to Doc Baker who discovers that she is pregnant. When Sylvia and her father refuse to explain, Albert comes under suspicion. While out fishing, Laura finds a bottle in the creek with a note inside that reads "Be my friend." She eventually persuades Charles to help her look for the writer of the note, but instead they find an abandoned baby.

However, in the next scene, when Elmer and his father are outside and the school children come to talk to Elmer, it is full daylight. He explains to Charles that, because of Uncle Ned’s eccentric lifestyle, his whole estate amounted to nothing – just a box containing worthless Confederate money. To try and collect her debt, Mrs. Oleson immediately forecloses on the Ingalls farm. But the friends in town come up with a plan to help the Ingalls keep their property.

Royal's wife believes a parent should never say 'No' to a child, and their boys' constant mischief tries the patience of Almanzo and Laura, who are determined to adopt a different parenting style with their own children. Six months before their planned wedding, Almanzo buys land for free from a Mr. Gray for a farm for him and Laura, but he agrees to a harsh deal that he must pay off the mortgage by a deadline or lose the title. When there is a drought, Gray, who owns the neighbouring farm, dams the stream which also waters Almanzo's land, thereby threatening Almanzo's crop and his ability to meet the deal.

At his trial, there are several surprising developments, including Andy's confession about leaving the lamp by the barn on a windy night, which prompts the judge to throw out the barn burning charge. He still finds Larabee guilty of assault and instead of any additional jail time, he orders Larabee to recompense Jonathan for the value of his lost wheat crop. Larabee's wife, as a result of his hatred of many people, takes their sons and leaves him. When she learns that a German student, Erich Schiller, beat Nellie in the school spelling bee, Mrs. Oleson claims that the lad's German immigrant parents are illiterate.
Season 7, Episodes 1 and 2 “Laura Ingalls Wilder”
It is hard to believe that a child would stay that clean for that long while sleeping in the woods. Charles tells Laura that he will take her and John Jr. fishing and that he will surely become jealous because she will catch the bigger fish. However, Laura mostly spends time with Carl and it is clear from Season 2’s “His Father’s Son”, that John Jr. does not like to harm animals. This is the second time that an Oleson daughter gets doused in a dunk tank. In Season 4’s “Meet Me at the Fair,” Nellie has her turn getting soaked in one of those tanks.

Mary must get help when a stagecoach accident traps Adam and endangers a pregnant woman. William Randolph Hearst helps Charles, Laura and Albert bring a dying boy to visit the ocean. The family of an alcoholic rancher turns to houseguest Charles for attention. Before their first day of school, Laura and Mary worry other students won't accept them.
Laura becomes frustrated with Jack and gives up trying to take the foxtails out of his ears. Mary, Laura, Nellie, and Willie visit Kezia and find out what a unique yet kind person she is. Charles assumes Jack knew his time was coming and decided to spare everyone the sadness of watching him die, but Laura feels guilty about neglecting him. Later, Charles brings home a stray dog (Bandit) that followed him home from Mankato after sniffing out his food stock, but Laura refuses to bond with the dog, still grieving the loss of Jack. Kezia speaks to Laura about how the dog only wants to love her, and how she also wants to love others but hasn't been accepted.

As a result, he has to travel away from home to find work and make some money, and meets up with Jack (Don Knight) and Jacob. Jack has a job as a powder monkey in a quarry, and enables Charles and Jacob to get work there too, where the hard and dangerous work is well paid. Meanwhile, with the men away, Caroline organizes the local wives and children to salvage what they can of the wheat, using only their manual labour. Some of the episodes written by Michael Landon were recycled storylines from ones that he had written for Bonanza.
When Nellie falls off the horse and appears to be seriously injured, Mrs. Oleson blames Laura and wants Bunny to be killed, so Laura takes Bunny and hides her. Nellie exploits Laura's guilty feelings, but then Laura makes a discovery which leads to a comeuppance for Nellie, and Bunny becomes Laura's horse again. Charles and the girls go on a camping trip, with Caroline planning to join them later. Previously, Caroline had scratched her leg on a piece of baling wire, and the minor scratch turns into a serious infection.
Also, in both cases, Laura is responsible for setting the whole thing up without Nellie or Nancy’s knowledge. In the scene where Nancy and Cassandra are at the water pump behind the school, notice how uneven Cassandra’s braids are. Then, in her next scene with the family at dinner, her braids are normal again. In Harriet and Nancy’s first scene together, when Harriet is baby talking to her and saying, “I’m your new mommy! If you watch and listen carefully, you can tell that the punching sound is heard a split second before Nancy’s fist touches Harriet’s nose.
Albert (Matthew Labyorteaux) takes a job as an apprentice for a woodworker Isaac Singerman (John Bleifer), a Jewish man who is the target of deep prejudice in the community. Mary accidentally sets the barn on fire while cramming for an important school competition. Substitute-teacher Caroline deals with a boy (Dirk Blocker) ridiculed for his limited literacy. Almanzo upsets Laura by asking another girl to the circus; Nels denies a circus-performer relative.
Anna is reunited with her baby, telling Laura she will keep the name Grace. A new family, the Carters (Stan Ivar as John, Pamela Roylance as Sarah, Lindsay Kennedy as older son Jeb, and David Friedman as younger son Jason), move into the Ingalls house. Meanwhile, Almanzo and Laura take in their niece, Jenny Wilder (played by Shannen Doherty), when Almanzo's brother dies and raise her alongside their daughter, Rose. The Wilders appear prominently in some episodes, while in others they appear only in early scenes used to introduce the story or its characters. The explanation given for the original characters' absence was that they moved to Burr Oak, Iowa, to pursue a promising life.
Albert then decides that his priority is his studies and that for him football should be for fun. Pete grudgingly resigns to making football practice less severe, after nearly destroying his marriage and family life. Laura and Albert work hard to harvest honey from a beehive after making a deal with Mr. Oleson, who said he would buy it at 30 cents a pound. Meanwhile, Adam wins a teaching award and must travel to Minneapolis to receive it, but they do not have enough money for the trip.
The Carters buy the Ingalls' farm; Laura welcomes teacher Etta Plum and Almanzo's relatives. An elderly farmer (Lew Ayres) urges Almanzo to run for mayor to oppose Mrs. Oleson. A black boy (Todd Bridges) offers to be the Ingalls' slave in exchange for attending school. Caroline and Dr. Baker go to an unhealthy mining camp to care for her ailing, pregnant friend. Charles' father stays with the Ingalls, but an incident with Laura deepens his depression. Laura thinks she saw Mr. Oleson kill his wife, but no one believes her.
They do not include the special features present on the earlier non-remastered releases, but rather seasons 1 through 6 each contain a roughly 15 minute segment of a special called "The Little House Phenomenon". Seasons 8 & 9 contain the three post-series movie specials as extras, with "Look Back to Yesterday" and "The Last Farewell" appearing on Season 8, and "Bless All The Dear Children" appearing on Season 9. None of the available releases of the series contain "The Little House Years", which was a three-hour Thanksgiving special aired during Season 6 that largely consisted of flashback clips.
